Agenda Highlights

Joint Dolphin Wahoo and Snapper Grouper Committees Meeting:

  • Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 7/Snapper Grouper Amendment 33 -  addresses provisions to allow fishermen to bring dolphin and wahoo fillets from the Bahamas into the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone and updates current regulations allowing recreational fishermen to bring back fillets of species in the snapper grouper management complex. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for submission to the Secretary of Commerce. 

Snapper Grouper Committee Meeting:

  • Regulatory Amendment 22 (gag and wreckfish) - the amendment addresses adjustments to the ABC, ACLs, and OY for gag and wreck fish based on results of the stock assessment for those two species.  The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for submission to the Secretary of Commerce.
  • Amendment 35 (removal of species and golden tilefish endorsements) -  The amendment proposes to remove four species from the Snapper Grouper Fishery Management Unit (black snapper, dog snapper, mahogany snapper, and schoolmaster).  The amendment also addresses issues with the current commercial golden tilefish longline endorsements.  The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for public hearings to be held in January .
  • Regulatory Amendment 16 (black sea bass pots) -  The amendment addresses the current seasonal prohibition on the use of black sea bass pots from November through April. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for public hearings to be held in January.
