Public comment will be accepted on items before the Council for approval for formal review and public hearings:

Approval for Formal Review:
(1) Spiny Lobster Regulatory Amendment 4
Approval for Public Hearings (in-person):
(1) Recreational Visioning Regulatory Amendment 26
(2) Commercial Visioning Regulatory Amendment 27

Public comment will be accepted on E.O. 13771 (2 for 1 Regulations) to identify regulations that are (1) outdated, (2) unnecessary, or (3) ineffective.

Public comment will also be accepted regarding any of the other items on the Council agenda. The Council Chair, based on the number of individuals wishing to comment, will determine the amount of time provided to each commenter.

DEADLINES: 

June 5, 2017: 
Written comments (online and those submitted by mail/fax) received by close of business the Monday before the meeting (June 5, 2017) will be compiled, posted to the website as part of the meeting materials, and included in the administrative record.  Please use the online comment form to ensure your comments get distributed immediately to Council.
Individuals that wish to submit comments after June 5 must use the Council's online comment form. Comments will automatically be posted to the website and available for Council consideration. Comments received prior to noon on Thursday of the Council meeting (5/15/17) will be a part of the meeting administrative record.

Workshop on Improving the Survival of Released Fish: Scientists and industry representatives will present best practices for catch and release fishing while also offering insights as to how outreach and education campaigns can better disseminate information regarding barotrauma.

Mackerel Cobia Committee:

  • Cobia - The Council will discuss the Emergency Action for Atlantic Cobia recommended by the Mackerel Cobia Advisory Panel. The Council will also receive an update on the ASMFC Interstate Cobia Plan.

Snapper Grouper Committee:

  • Red Snapper & Recreational Reporting - The Council will receive a reports from the National Marine Fisheries Service about red snapper dead discards in 2016. A decision will be made about the 2017 red snapper season.
  • Visioning Amendments - The Council will review public hearing comments for both recreational (Amendment 26) and commercial (Amendment 27) management measures in the snapper grouper fishery. Items being considered were identified as priority action items in the Council's 2016-2020 Snapper Grouper Vision Blueprint.
  • For-hire Limited Entry - The Council will review a white paper outlining approaches for developing a limited entry system affecting federal for-hire permits in the snapper grouper fishery.
