(For areas three-200 miles off the coasts of NC, SC, GA, and East Florida)

Note!: New regulations for black grouper and other species effective July 29, 2009.  See Fishery Bulletin for summary. Changes are noted below in red.

Commercial:

Recreational:

  • Included in the 3 grouper per person bag limit, although no more than 1 fish may be gag or black grouper. See new recreational retention limits summary (PDF).
  • 24" TL size limit.
  • Must be landed with head and fins intact. Purchase and sale is prohibited March and April.
  • Gear restrictions apply.

New! Seasonal Closures:

A closure is in effect for the recreational and commercial harvest of all shallow water groupers, January through April beginning 2010. Shallow water groupers include:

  • Black grouper
  • Gag grouper
  • Red grouper
  • Scamp
  • Red hind
  • Rock hind
  • Coney
  • Graysby
  • Yellowfin grouper
  • Yellowmouth grouper
