Description and Distribution of Habitats Comprising the South Atlantic Ecosystem

Introduction & Freshwater Systems – Contains information on riverine and freshwater wetlands and submersed rooted vascular ecosystems including distribution, ecological role, species composition and community structure and role as Essential Fish Habitat.

Estuarine/Inshore Systems (3.2 MB) -- Contains information on seven types of inshore ecosystems -- saltmarsh and brackish marsh, mangroves, seagrass, oyster reefs, intertidal flats, estuarine water column and soft bottom -- including their distribution, ecological role, species composition and community structure and role as Essential Fish Habitat.

Marine/Offshore Systems (2.3 MB) -- Contains information on five types of marine ecosystems – coral reefs and hardbottom, artificial reefs, Sargassum habitat, marine water column and marine soft bottom -- including their distribution, ecological role, species composition and community structure and role as Essential Fish Habitat.

Biology, Distribution and Status of Species Under Management by the SAFMC -- Contains a description of the species in the Management Unit including reproduction, growth and movement patterns, ecological relationships, distribution, habitat, abundance and status of stocks.
