NOAA Fisheries Reminder - Valid Federal Commercial Vessel Permit Required to Fish for or Possess Penaeid Shrimp in or from South Atlantic Federal Waters

NOAA Fisheries reminds fishers harvesting penaeid shrimp (white shrimp, pink shrimp, and brown shrimp) in federal waters of the South Atlantic Region, that for a person aboard a trawler to fish for penaeid shrimp or possess penaeid shrimp in or from federal waters, a valid federal commercial vessel permit for South Atlantic penaeid shrimp is required (50 C.F.R. § 622.200). The South Atlantic Region federal waters are those waters 3-200 nautical miles offshore North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and the east coast of Florida.

A separate federal commercial vessel permit is required to fish for or possess rock shrimp in the South Atlantic Region federal waters.
