AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS

Visioning Workshop

  • Vision Blueprint for the Snapper Grouper Fishery - The Council will review the final document and adopt the 2016 - 2020 Vision Blueprint. Council will also discuss amendment examples and approaches that could be developed from the priority actions in the Blueprint in 2016-2017. 

Dolphin Wahoo Committee Meeting

  • Dolphin Wahoo Regulatory Amendment 1 (dolphin) - The amendment will establish options commercial trip limits for dolphin. The Council will review public input, select preferred alternatives and is scheduled to approve the amendment for Secretarial review.  

Snapper Grouper Committee Meeting

  • Regulatory Amendment 16 - (black sea bass pot closure) - The amendment modifies the current (November through April) commercial pot fishery closure and will specify new black sea bass pot gear modifications that reduce the required breaking strength for buoy lines and weak links, and changes to aid in gear identification in the event of a whale entanglement.  The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for Secretarial review. 

  • Regulatory Amendment 25 (blueline tilefish, yellowtail snapper, and black sea bass) - The amendment addresses fishing levels, commercial trip limit, and recreational bag limit for blueline tilefish; adjustments to the fishing year and commercial accountability measures for yellowtail snapper; and increases to the recreational bag limit for black sea bass. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for Secretarial review. 

  • System Management Plan for Deepwater Marine Protected Areas - The plan outlines research/monitoring, enforcement and outreach goals and objectives for the 8 deepwater MPAs established through Snapper Grouper Amendment 14. The Council is scheduled to approve the System Management Plan. 

  • Amendment 37 (hogfish) - Actions in the amendment nclude modifying the Fishery Management Unit for hogfish (genetic evidence indicates three distinct stocks); revising fishing levels and other measures, as appropriate, for the two stocks in the SAFMC jurisdiction; establish a rebuilding plan for the Florida Keys/East Florida stock, and commercial and recreational management measures for each stock. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for public hearings in early 2016.

Data Collection Committee Meeting

  • Joint Charterboat Reporting Amendment- The amendment proposes to implement electronic logbook reporting for charter boats in the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for public hearing.
