Amendment Overviews:

Scoping - 

  • Snapper Grouper Amendment 35 (removal of species-  This amendment is considering the removal of 4 species from the Snapper Grouper FMU:  black snapper, dog snapper, mahogany snapper, and schoolmaster.  
  • Snapper Grouper Amendment 36 (spawning Special Management Zones) - This amendment is considering a process to identify spawning spawning sites/aggregations for snapper grouper species, including speckled hind and warsaw grouper, based on the characteristics of sites important for spawning (bottom topography, current systems, etc.), and the placement of artificial reefs on appropriate bottom type within existing MPAs to target warsaw grouper, speckled hind, and other snapper grouper species.

Public Hearing - 

  • Generic Accountability Measures & Dolphin Allocation Amendment (accountability measures for species and dolphin allocations) - The amendment considers changes in accountability measures for snapper grouper species and golden crab to determine when ACL overages need to be paid back and to bring consistency to accountability measures; and considers changes in how dolphin is allocated between commercial and recreational sectors.  
  • Snapper Grouper Amendment 32 (blueline tilefish mangement measures) - The amendment has actions to remove blueline tilefish from the deepwater complex;  establish annual catch limits; a recreational Annual Catch Target (ACT); specify recreational and commercial Accountability Measures (AMs); establish a commercial trip limit; and adjust the recreational bag limit. 
  • Snapper Grouper Regulatory Amendment 20 (snowy grouper management measures) - The amendment proposes to adjust the rebuilding strategy, acceptable biological Catch (ABC), annual catch limit (ACL), maximum sustainable yield (MSY), minimum stock size threshold (MSST), and optimum yield (OY), and revise management measures for snowy grouper.
  • Coastal Migratory Pelagics Framework Amendment 2 (Atlantic Spanish mackerel trip limits for Southern Zone) - The amendment will revise the quota and trip limit system for commercial harvest of Atlantic Spanish mackerel in the Southern Zone (which is proposed in Amendment 20B, and includes SC, GA and Florida East Coast.)
  • Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 7/Snapper Grouper Amendment 33 (transport of fillets from The Bahamas) - The amendment considers allowing recreational fishermen to bring dolphin and wahoo fillets from the Bahamas into the US EEZ as is currently allowed with snapper grouper species.  The amendment also addresses options related to modifying how fishermen may bring snapper grouper fillets back from The Bahamas into the U.S. EEZ.
