Charter, Commercial, and Tournament Fisherman
As a seventh generation Floridian, it's no surprise that Art lives for Florida’s ocean ecosystems. He grew up primarily fishing for dolphin and snapper in the summer, then grouper and cobia in the winter. Art spent a lot of time in a tackle shop that had a fish market next door. After watching a few fishermen offload at the market, Art realized that he could make a living off of his early budding passion. He fished as much as possible while attending school. After baseball/college he went into business with his father in a golf maintenance company. Art resumed a more frequent fishing schedule. Fishing slowly became a priority and for the last 8 years has been his sole career.
Fisheries Management Philosophy:
After 40 years of watching the effects of the laws on the various fisheries that I’ve been involved in, I felt a need to get involved. I hope to help influence long-term sustainability without absolute shut downs of any fishery. It is my goal to avoid any extreme actions if not warranted. I look forward to speaking with as many people in the fishing industry as possible, especially when issues come before the council that directly affect a person's livelihood.
