June 3, 2019: 
Written comments (online and those submitted by mail/fax) received by close of business the Monday before the meeting (06/03/19) will be compiled, posted to the website as part of the meeting materials, and included in the administrative record.  Please use the online comment form to ensure your comments get distributed immediately to Council.

June 4 - June 13: 
Individuals that wish to submit comments after February 28 must use the Council's online comment form. Comments will automatically be posted to the website and available for Council consideration. Comments received prior to noon on Thursday of the Council meeting (06/12/19) will be a part of the meeting administrative record.

  • Informal Public Discussion Session, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.


  • Formal Public Comment Session, Wednesday, June 12th beginning at 4:00 PM.



  • The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)—an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress—is conducting a study on allocation reviews for mixed-use fisheries (those with a combination of commercial, recreational, or for-hire fishing sectors) in federal waters of the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. GAO staff will be in attendance at the June 2019 South Atlantic Fishery Management Council meeting and would like to meet with fishery stakeholders to discuss mixed-use fisheries allocations. GAO will post a signup sheet in the area outside the Council meeting space by 8:30 am Monday, June 10th for those interested in scheduling a meeting time with GAO. GAO will be available for meetings Monday, June 10th through Wednesday, June 13th, generally from 8:30 am to 6 pm, with the exception of the Magnuson-Stevens Act Reauthorization & Modern Fisheries Act discussion and the Council’s Public Comment session. Information from stakeholders is a critical part of this study, and GAO staff hope to speak to as many interested stakeholders as possible at this meeting. Please direct any questions to FisheriesAllocations@gao.gov.


  • Red Snapper- The Snapper Grouper Committee will discuss alternatives for modifying the start dates, days of the week, and minimum number of fishing days required for opening the red snapper seasons. The Council is scheduled to approve Snapper Grouper Regulatory Amendment for public hearings.


  • Best Fishing Practices and Use of Powerhead Gear - The Snapper Grouper Committee will continue to discuss proposed requirements for the use of descending devices, venting tools, and circle hooks, as well as changes to restrictions on powerhead gear.


  • Dolphin Wahoo- The committee will continue to discuss management options for both dolphin and wahoo to include in draft Amendment 10 to the Dolphin Wahoo Fishery Management Plan.


  • Allocations- The Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole to begin discussions of allocations between recreational and commercial sectors.


  • King Mackerel- The Council will consider an increase in the Atlantic king mackerel commercial trip limit through emergency action.
