Public comment will be accepted regarding any of the items on the Council agenda. The Council Chair, based on the number of individuals wishing to comment, will determine the amount of time allotted to each person in the queue.

DEADLINES: 

February 22, 2021: 
Written comments (online and those submitted by mail/fax) received by close of business the Monday before the meeting (2/22/21) will be compiled, posted to the website as part of the meeting materials, and included in the administrative record.  Please use the online comment form to ensure your comments get distributed immediately to the Council.

February 23 - March 4, 2021: 
Individuals that wish to submit comments after February 22 must use the Council's online comment form. Comments will automatically be posted to the website and available for Council consideration. Comments received prior to 9 AM on Thursday of the Council meeting (3/4/21) will be a part of the meeting administrative record.

 

The following agenda highlights will be up for discussion during the meeting:

Exempted Fishing Permit Request

  • NOAA Fisheries staff will provide a briefing on a request to obtain an Exempted Fishing Permit to temporarily allow harvest of speckled hind in federal waters of the South Atlantic. The samples would be used by Texas A&M University to assess speckled hind population structure, connectivity, and life history. The Exempted Fishing Permit would be valid through August 31, 2022. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the request during the public comment session for the March Council Meeting.

 

Snapper Grouper

  • The Council will consider options for modernizing the Wreckfish Individual Transferable Quota (ITQ) Program under Snapper Grouper Amendment 48. Public Scoping for the amendment will be held during the meeting.
  • The Council will discuss Snapper Grouper Amendment 50, which considers modifications to red porgy management, including catch levels and allocations. Public Scoping sessions were held in February and comments submitted will be reviewed and considered when the Council discusses how to move forward with the proposed actions in the amendment.
  • Under Snapper Grouper Amendment 49, the Council will discuss catch levels and allocations for Greater Amberjack. The Council will consider approving the amendment for public scoping to be held in the spring.

 

Dolphin Wahoo

  • The Council will continue to discuss Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 10, which considers multiple management measures for Dolphin and Wahoo, including but not limited to catch levels, allocations, bag limits, vessel limits, and accountability measures. Public Hearing for the amendment were held in January and comments submitted will be reviewed and considered when the Council discusses how to move forward with the 13 actions in the amendment.

 

Coastal Migratory Pelagics

 

Coral & Deepwater Shrimp

  • The Council will discuss Coral Amendment 10, which proposes establishing a shrimp fishery access area along the Northern Extension of the Oculina Bank Coral Habitat Area of Particular Concern. Public scoping was held in February and comments submitted will be reviewed and considered when the Council discusses the amendment. During the meeting, the Council will consider approving the amendment for public hearings.
