Calling all Fishermen in the South Atlantic!
Applications being accepted for the 2016 Marine Resource Education Program Southeast!
What is the Marine Resource Education Program Southeast (MREP)?
A unique educational experience, designed for fishermen, by fishermen.
The program is facilitated by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI).
Fishermen who want to learn more about the federal fishery science and management processes used in the Gulf of Mexico, South Atlantic, and Caribbean fishery regions, are encouraged to sign up to attend the Marine Resource Education Program workshops, now being offered specifically for the Southeast fisheries region. This is a great opportunity for fishermen, scientists and managers to learn from each other. Program participants have a chance to network, and build their own understanding of federal fishery science and management through a tailored educational experience.
Accepted participants will have the chance to attend two workshops in 2016:
- Fishery Science Workshop: April 19-21, 2016 in St. Petersburg, FL
- Fishery Management Workshop: October 4-6, 2016 in Tampa, FL
An application is required, and can be found online: www.gmri.org/mrep or you can call Patty Collins at 207/228-1625 to submit your application over the phone.
Applications will be reviewed in February 2016. Once applications are reviewed, selected fishermen will be notified by phone and mail. Meals and accommodations are provided during the workshops, and travel support is also available to qualifying active fishermen.
