Dolphin Wahoo Committee Meeting

  • Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 7 - addresses provisions to allow fishermen to bring dolphin and wahoo fillets from the Bahamas into the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone as currently allowed for species in the snapper grouper management complex. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for Secretarial review and approval.

Snapper Grouper Committee Meeting

  • Regulatory Amendment 17 - Marine Protected Areas - The committee will review options for MPAs including modification of existing and/or development of new sites for consideration to help reduce bycatch of speckled hind and warsaw grouper. Committee is scheduled to approve the amendment for public scoping in January 2014.

  • Amendment 31 - Blueline tilefish - Management alternatives include reductions in harvest based on a new stock assessment. Recommendations from the SSC and public scoping will be considered. Emergency action may be requested. Committee is scheduled to approve the amendment for January 2014 public hearings.

  • Amendment 29 - ORCS and gray triggerfish - Outlines procedures for management of stocks with limited data (only reliable catch stocks) and alternatives for triggerfish management measures including commercial trip limits and size limits. Committee is scheduled to approve for January 2014 public hearings.

  • Other amendments scheduled for approval for public scoping in January 2014: Amendment 16 (removal of black sea bass pot seasonal closure) and Amendment 22 (tag program to help track harvest of species with low annual catch limits).

Mackerel Committee Meeting

  • Joint SA/Gulf Mackerel Amendment 20B - establishes regional commercial annual catch limits (Northern Zone -NC north to NY and Southern Zone - SC, GA and Eastern FL) for Atlantic group king mackerel and Spanish mackerel and allows for transfer of the quota. Also addresses trip limits, fishing seasons, and transit provisions in the Gulf of Mexico, in addition to framework procedure and catch limits for cobia. The Council is scheduled to approve the amendment for Secretarial review and approval.
