Public Comment Sessions - Thursday, September 18 (beginning at 2:00 P.M.)
- 2:00 p.m. Shrimp Amendment 7 - addressing rock shrimp permit endorsements, economic reporting
- 2:30 p.m. Spiny Lobster Generic Import Amendment - addressing import regulations in the South Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico.
- 3:00 p.m. Snapper Grouper Amendment 16 - Measures to end overfishing for gag and vermilion snapper - including seasonal closures for shallow-water grouper, reductions in bag and trip limits, etc.
- Interim Rule /Possible Red Snapper Closure - If the Council requests an Interim Rule to address overfishing for red snapper, gag, vermilion snapper, black grouper and red grouper, there will be a public comment period prior to any action. (NOTE: The Interim Rule comment period will begin immediately following Amendment 16 comments).
Allocation Committee: The Committee will provide a report to the Council recommending allocations based on three sectors: commercial, for-hire, and recreational - plus additional allocation alternatives.
Joint Meeting of the Deepwater Shrimp and Golden Crab Advisory Panels: The APs will meet the afternoon of Monday, September 15 to review alternatives for Allowable Golden Crab Fishing Areas and Shrimp Fishery Access Areas within the proposed deepwater Coral HAPCs. In addition, the Deepwater Shrim AP will provide their input on Shrimp Amendment 7.
Snapper Grouper Committee:
Snapper Grouper Amendment 16 - (measures to end overfishing for gag grouper and vermilion snapper) - Review second round public hearing and SDEIS comments. If no significant changes are made, recommend submission to the Secretary of Commerce for final review and approval.
Snapper Grouper Amendment 17 (Annual Catch Limits and Accountability Measures for species undergoing overfishing, including red snapper, etc.) - continue to develop options.
Interim Rule - consider implementation of interim measures to end overfishing for red snapper, including a closure for both recreational and commercial fisheries plus measures for gag grouper, vermilion snapper, black grouper, and red grouper.
Joint Habitat and Ecosystem-based Management Committees: Continue review of the Fishery Ecosystem Plan and the Comprehensive Ecosystem Amendment (addressing protection of deepwater coral areas), modify the documents as necessary, and approve for a second round of public hearings scheduled for October; discussion of possible National Monument designations.
