Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 7

Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 7

Proposed action: This amendment considers allowing fishermen to bring dolphin and wahoo fillets from the Bahamas into the US EEZ as is currently allowed with snapper grouper species.  The Council directed this amendment be developed at the September 2013 meeting.  Public hearings were held online and at the December 2013 Council meeting. However, at the December 2013 meeting, Council revised the actions to be considered in the amendment including leaving skin on the fillets, onboard documentation requirements, as well as determining how many Bahamian fillets may be aboard the vessel in the U.S. EEZ.

In March 2014, Council received input from the Law Enforcement Advisory Panel and Committee and made revisions to the Purpose and Need and actions/alternatives. Council reviewed the amendment at the June 2014 meeting, held public hearings in August 2014 and approved the amendment for Secretarial Review in December 2014.
