Snapper Grouper Amendment 7

Amendment Summary

Required dealer, charter and head boat federal permits. Defined allowable gear and established bag limits and minimum sizes for hogfish and mutton snapper. Modified the management unit for scup.

Implemented Regulations

  • Hogfish: 12″ FL min size.
  • Mutton snapper: increased the min size from 12″ TL to 16″ TL
  • Required all dealers who want to receive species in the FMU taken from the EEZ to obtain a federal dealer permit. Dealers must report as required, dealers must possess a state dealer’s license to be able to obtain a federal permit, dealers must have a physical location, the fee will be applied to cover the issue cost.
  • Allowed for the sale of SG species under the following conditions: 1. fish caught under the bag limit may be sold if the individual possesses a federal permit or state license to sell fish, if bag limit fish are sold they must be sold to a federally permitted SG dealer and must be reported through the state’s trip ticket system 2. fish caught in excess of the bag limit may be sold only if the individual possesses the federal permit to exceed the bag limit. If fish are sold they must be sold to a federally permitted SG dealer and must be reported through the states trip ticket system.
