The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council will hold meetings of its advisory panels and a meeting of its Scientific and Statistical Committee and Socio-Economic Panel this spring. The meetings are open to the public and available via webinar as they occur. Meeting materials, including agendas, overviews, presentations, webinar registration links and an online public comment form are posted to the Council’s website two weeks prior to each meeting.
The meetings begin next week with the Snapper Grouper Advisory Panel convening in Charleston, SC. Members of the Council’s advisory panels meet periodically to provide grass-roots recommendations on various fishery management issues. Members include commercial, recreational, and for-hire/charter fishermen and industry representatives, business operators, non-governmental organizations, and others familiar with the fishery or management issues. Scientific and Statistical Committee and Socio-Economic Panel Meetings
The Council will hold a meeting of its Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) and Socio-Economic Panel in April. The SSC meets at least two times each year to address a broad range of topics, including stock assessments, management action evaluations, habitat evaluations, and ecosystem management issues.
The SSC is comprised of biologists, stock assessment scientists, economists, social scientists, and natural resource specialists from academic institutions and state and federal agencies who are knowledgeable about the technical aspects of fisheries in the South Atlantic.
The SSC also has a Socio-Economic Panel (SEP) made up of social scientists and economists who advise the Council on social and economic issues affecting South Atlantic fisheries. Learn more about the Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee.
