South Atlantic Fishery Management Council

Snapper Grouper Private Angler Advisory Panel

The Snapper Grouper Private Angler Advisory Panel’s (AP) role is to advise the Council on matters relating to private recreational permitting and education. The AP was established in 2023 to assist in developing Snapper Grouper Amendment 46 which considers establishing a permit and education requirement for the private component of the recreational sector in the Snapper Grouper fishery.

This AP is comprised of representatives from all four states in the South Atlantic region to provide insight from a private angler’s perspective to the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) as Amendment 46 is developed. Members of the AP are appointed by the Council and may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms as specified in the AP Policy.  This is an ad-hoc AP, meaning that it will conclude once Amendment 46 has been fully developed.

The AP will typically meet two to three times per year as needed via webinar.
